Hey, y’all, my name is Marilee Johnson. I have had a passion for cooking since the early 1980′s. I found myself in a job that was unsatisfying and learned about a local cooking school. I attended Rich’s Cooking School, in Atlanta, GA and studied under well-known southern chef, cookbook author, and two time James Beard winner, Nathalie Dupree. Nathalie is the author of eleven cookbooks and host of 300 television shows which have aired on PBS, The Learning Channel and The Food Network. Using Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, I accomplished the classic French techniques and creations.
I spent 10 years cooking professionally and have worked for award winning restaurants such as Indigo Coastal Grill and Partner’s Pantry. Also, I worked under the tutelage of Chef Vagn Nielsen, Corporate Executive Chef of longtime award-winning favorite, Proof of the Pudding caterers in Atlanta, GA. While managing Emory University’s Faculty Dining room, I created heart healthy menus approved by the American Heart Association.
I needed a break after spending 10 years in commercial kitchens. Over the last seventeen years, I’ve had a successful career in sales. After 12 years at one company selling business telephone systems and VoIP products, I decided it was time to explore other opportunities. I kept coming back to cooking. In 2011, I began volunteering at The Cook’s Warehouse as an assistant in their very popular cooking school program. It has filled my heart to be back in this environment again! This is what I love!
I write about various subjects on this website. It’s not just about bread and soup, as you can see!
I reside in Atlanta, GA.

Thanks, Colleen! Glad you have your apron! Follow me here and let me know how I can help. If you have any questions, post them and I’ll get back to you. Are you cooking for Christmas?
Yes! America needs this, I know I am not the only one intimidated by the kitchen and I think it might take too long to cook from scratch, but I am also picky about organic food and shop for the USDA stuff. I am buying organic frozen food, when I know there are still things I don’t like in the box meals ect. I would love to learn how to cook, I even have an apron ! I am taking some small steps to learn how to cook. Thanks for giving me a push !
Hey Cecilia!
Thanks so much for the good wishes! This is so exciting! It starts with one idea and grows from there! Really great to hear from you. Stay posted….good stuff to come!
Congrats on this new adventure!! Wishing you nothing but success and happiness.
